We had a lovely stay at Palm tree oriental homestay! Martin, the host, was very kind and always helpful with everything from transportation to guiding tours to breakfast and restaurant tips. We had such a good stay and will most definitely return to this paradise, soon!

We were made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was spotless and spacious with a lovely, quiet, shared courtyard. Martin was very helpful with lots of local information and advice and supplied us with as many oranges as we wanted from his orchard. The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed cooking for ourselves some evenings. Would definitely recommend this apartment to friends and stay again ourselves. Many thanks Martin!

Our room was really clean and had all we need. The description was clear about what we could expect, and everything was good and new. The terrace in front of our room was really romantic and perfect for a drink in the evening. Our breakfast was delicious and served with a lot of love. Martin is a great host and he helped us with everything we asked. Even when he was fully booked he really helped us to find another great place to stay for the night. We'll definitely come back!

Martin the owner is such a helpful and friendly host. He is a tour guide and his recommendations for restaurants throughout the island were all spot on. For our walking holiday the location was perfect for trips to Akamas and the Aphrodite route, Avakas Gorge and Stavros in the the Trodos — all within less than 45 minutes drive. Being under ten minutes drive from the beach it was great to end each day's hike on the beach for a swim and sunset drink before returning to the room for a lovely hot shower and out for dinner in the area. PERFECT Amazing value for money. Having breakfast in the garden in the early morning was an amazing treat. there is a fridge and kettle in the room and supermarket 500 meters away. Martin's breakfast made on the spot was fresh and tasty including squezed orange juice.

About the host

Martin is an off-the-beaten track world traveller who set off to travel solo to Canada when he was 15. After visiting a couple of Kibbutzim in Israel, he set up and owned a travel agency and one of Germany's first backpacker hostels in the early 1990s. Having lived and worked as a professional tour guide in the Middle East, the UAE, Oman, Australia, and the South Pacific, Martin always likes to bring the old travel tales alive and share his passion with other travellers. Places like Open Sesame and Al-Ahram in Jerusalem, Sergeant Pepper's and the Groppi in Cairo, the Pudding Shop in Istanbul, and the old Magic Bus travelling overland to South-East Asia may still ring a bell to some of you "real" travellers.

The top 3 things to do in Polis Chrysouchous and the surroundings

1 The Akamas peninsula, located on the Western tip of island roughly 10 km away from Polis, is a beautiful natural conservation area known for its diverse flora and fauna. It is a Natura 2000 protected area where you can spot rare endemic plants, foxes, snakes and other reptiles, many types of migratory birds, caretta-caretta sea turtles and sometimes seals. Ideal for hikers and cyclists.

2 Latchi, a former fishing port, has an attractive marina and plenty of tavernas for those who want to spend their days leisurely relaxing on the seaside or on the beach, perhaps trying some watersports and enjoying good food.

3 For experiencing genuine Cypriot village life and hospitality, take a walk in the surrounding villages nestled in the rocky hills with magnificent views and visit the local taverna where live music is played every Friday night. It is not unusual to be spontaneously invited for a cup of coffee by our neighbours either!
